Sports in Puerto Vallarta

April 22, 2019 by Justin

Sports in Puerto Vallarta is a huge category so we have created this page to more traditional, land-based sports that are more widely available. These include soccer, golf, tennis, swimming (pool) and skydiving.

We have dedicated pages for more holiday specific aquatic sports such as fishing, Scuba-diving, snorkeling, and surfing.

Most of the best hotel resorts will have tennis courts but if you are looking for a competitive game then you can try the Canto Del Sol Tennis Club

Canto Del Sol is only 5 minutes from the “Malecon” and 10 minutes from the International Airport, Canto del Sol Plaza Vallarta has some decent tennis courts. If you don’t have a tennis partner drop by and ask to speak with one of the regulars for a game.

There are 4 well-maintained outdoor clay courts and 4 covered laykol courts which are great for playing during the rainy season. Hourly court rental prices are reasonable and the membership prices are even better.

Many of the better hotels will have a gym and various sizes of swimming pools but if you’re looking for a place to swim laps, there’s a lap pool at ViveFit. ViveFit is located close to La Zona Romantica.

And, obviously there’s the beach, or the many beautiful beaches near Puerto Vallarta.

Vive Fit and Swimming are located at Francisco Villa 299 Col. Olímpica Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mex. C.P. 48340. We took an Uber there. The Ubers are quite cheap in Puerto Vallarta. The pool is 25 meters long, which is perfect for lap swimming. Wearing a shower cap is mandatory. The pool water is not heavily chlorinated. You can buy a day pass for approximately 9$.

Puerto Vallarta Cycling is a well-organized group where you can rent bikes, go on cycling tours, meet other cycling enthusiasts and read about the best routes to take on their blog. Check it out!

Although there are many top quality golf courses dotted around Puerto Vallarta they are all private. Some of the most famous names of golf are associated with many of the golf courses in Puerto Vallarta, including Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, and Tom Weiskopf.

If you are soccer crazy then check out Club Soccer Vallarta as it is the most active place in town with people of all ages playing. Depending on the season you should be able to watch a local match, have a kick-about on a pitch or maybe join in with some locals. Be careful, they are fast!

Beach soccer is also popular and in May 2019 some big competitions were hosted in Puerto Vallarta.
